Many people know “The Mad Hatter’ character from the classic story Alice In Wonderland. The movie staring Johnny Depp is making this story very popular. However what most people do not know is that ‘Hatters Disease‘ is real and VERY serious.
In the 1800′s it was very fashionable to wear a hat. It was also very practical. Consequently there was a large hat making industry. In those days hats were made out of felt (which was made from animal pelts.) Felt needed to be stiff to make a good had. Mercury was used to do this. The workers using the mercury to work on hats were exposed to large amounts of this toxic heavy metal. Poor working conditions with little to no ventilation resulted in many people becoming mercury poisoned. Symptoms of mercury poisoning included loss of coordination, slurred speech, loosening of teeth, memory loss, depression, irritability, and anxiety. Insanity was also attributed to mercury poisoning.
The prognosis for ‘Mad Hatters’ was not good. Chelation is the medical treatment of using a substance that binds to another substance and allows your body to excrete the toxins. There was no form of oral chelation at the time of the Mad Hatters. Such afflicted individuals were usually ostracized and lived a miserable, unhealthy, and confused life. Today ‘Hatters Disease’ is merely called Mercury Poisoning. Extreme levels of exposure seldom occur nowadays, however even small amounts of mercury can cause very serious health problems. Another article on this site will explain mercury poisoning more indepth.
The oral chelation protocol using DMSA Synergy is a simple 3 day “on” DMSA and 11 days “off” DMSA protocol to remove this deadly toxin.
