EDTA Chelation Therapy (EDTA stands for ‘EthyleneDiamineTetraAcetic Acid’) has been around for a long time. In the early 1930′s German scientists formulated EDTA for use in EDTA Chelation Therapy, specifically to remove toxic heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and others. This was the first use for EDTA chelation therapy. It wasn’t until 1948 that the United States first started using EDTA chelation therapy to treat workers exposed to lead. It has since been used to treat a wide range of conditions. It has been touted as being able to relieve many of the problems associated with cardiovascular disease. EDTA chelation therapy is suggested to be able remove the effects of heart attacks and get rid of angina pectoris, better known as chest pains.

Being a weak amino acid, the exact mechanism by which EDTA chelation therapy works is not fully understood. That it removes heavy metals such as lead are well understood. Note it does not remove mercury, only DMSA and DMPS can do this. EDTA chelation therapy is also beneficial to those suffering from atherosclerosis (plaque buildups on arterial walls). Doctors administering IV EDTA chelation therapy observed that blood flow increased thereby lessening the symptoms of atherosclerosis.

IV EDTA chelation therapy sessions typically last from 3 to 4 hours. Patients require 20-50 sessions. This is such a wide range as it depends on the persons physical condition and the seriousness of their atherosclerosos. The total cost for IV EDTA chelation therapy ranges from $2000-$4000. A licensed doctor must administer the treatment. Oral EDTA chelation therapy is an alternative to the IV treatment. The oral EDTA chelation therapy does take longer as only about 5% – 10% of the EDTA is absorbed when taken orally, versus 100% adsorption when taken via IV.

The oral chelation protocol which is safer than Edta chelation therapy using DMSA Synergy is a simple 3 day “on” DMSA and 11 days “off” DMSA protocol. And is VERY successful at removing heavy metal toxins.

DMPS stands for “2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid sodium”, also known as Dimovol. DMPS is a synthetic amino acid chelating agent used to get rid of toxic heavy metals during DMPS chelation.

DMPS forms a water soluble complex with heavy metals. It is the removed from the body through the kidneys, liver, gastrointestinal tract.

DMPS chelation is given via IV, thats intravenously. It needs to be administered by a doctor certified to use it. There is much anecdotal evidence on the internet talking about the dangers or DMPS. One should really research DMPS chelation before going ahead and starting a chelation schedule. Many people describe very serious health risks associated with DMPS chelation. At the very least, you should have it administered by a licensed doctor who has done MANY of the treatments. People are very sensitive to drip rate and over dosage therefore a very experienced doctor is needed.

In the United States it is classed by the FDA as ‘experimental’, this is hardly reassuring. DMPS chelation is also very expensive, costing several thousand dollars. Perhaps a better form of oral chelation is using DMSA which has been certified by the FDA since 1992 as ‘safe and beneficial’. DMSA can be readily bought on the internet without a prescription and is take in capsule form. There are almost no side effects or interaction effects noted for DMSA. Searching on the internet will reveal no health concerns related to DMSA chelation.
As always, when your health is of concern its best to research all things possible before putting something in your body. DMPS chelation is a procedure best left to licensed medical doctors well trained specifically in DMPS chelation procedures.

The oral chelation protocol using DMSA Synergy is a simple 3 day “on” DMSA and 11 days “off” DMSA protocol.

Many people know “The Mad Hatter’ character from the classic story Alice In Wonderland. The movie staring Johnny Depp is making this story very popular. However what most people do not know is that ‘Hatters Disease‘ is real and VERY serious.

In the 1800′s it was very fashionable to wear a hat. It was also very practical. Consequently there was a large hat making industry. In those days hats were made out of felt (which was made from animal pelts.) Felt needed to be stiff to make a good had. Mercury was used to do this. The workers using the mercury to work on hats were exposed to large amounts of this toxic heavy metal. Poor working conditions with little to no ventilation resulted in many people becoming mercury poisoned. Symptoms of mercury poisoning included loss of coordination, slurred speech, loosening of teeth, memory loss, depression, irritability, and anxiety. Insanity was also attributed to mercury poisoning.

The prognosis for ‘Mad Hatters’ was not good. Chelation is the medical treatment of using a substance that binds to another substance and allows your body to excrete the toxins. There was no form of oral chelation at the time of the Mad Hatters. Such afflicted individuals were usually ostracized and lived a miserable, unhealthy, and confused life. Today ‘Hatters Disease’ is merely called Mercury Poisoning. Extreme levels of exposure seldom occur nowadays, however even small amounts of mercury can cause very serious health problems. Another article on this site will explain mercury poisoning more indepth.

The oral chelation protocol using DMSA Synergy is a simple 3 day “on” DMSA and 11 days “off” DMSA protocol to remove this deadly toxin.

Minamata Disaster was a severe health crisis that occurred in Japan between 1932-1968. Minamata Disease is a very severe and deadly neurological syndrome caused by severe ,mercury poisoning. A waterfront town was exposed to methyl mercury, the most deadly form of mercury, when a chemical company released methyl mercury into the waters. The name of this town is Minamata, hence the name of the disease. The local residents, including animals, became very sick from the water and seafood. Bioaccumulation is when small organism is contaminated and a larger one eats it, the larger one then becomes contaminated. This continues on up the food chain, this causes larger animals and seafood to become very toxic.

The Chisso chemical company was ordered to pay close to $100 million in damages but this can never compensate for the lives they destroyed through willful neglect. Symptoms include difficulty walking, difficulty talking, and convulsions. Crows fell from the sky dead, fish float dead on the water and cats move erratically, go mad, and die. Minamata Disease is also called ‘Dancing Cat Disease’ based on what the mercury poisoning did to cats.

There was so much mercury in the water and sludge that the company actually set up a process to recover the mercury and sell it! This amounts to a massive admission of guilt. In 1968 the Japanese government officially acknowledged the disease. It ironically happened only 4 months after the Chisso company stopped using mercury, draw your own conclusions from this ‘coincidence’.

Heavy metals, including mercury, are passed in vitro, from mother to baby. It takes 4 generations for heavy metals to disappear from the gene line. This assumes that continued exposure is stopped, which is very unlikely in Minamata. To this day the residents of Minamata experience extremely high incidents of diseases like Cerebral Palsy, all forms of cancer, slurred speech and difficulty walking.

The oral chelation protocol using DMSA Synergy is a simple 3 day “on” DMSA and 11 days “off” DMSA protocol.

Keylation therapy, there is more and more being said about this everyday. But what exactly is keylation therapy? Keylation therapy is the method of removing chemicals from the body. There are many kelation therapy methods. Each has its own merits. Some people prefer to fast and do cleanses. Some people prefer to take keylation therapy supplements. Still other follow the kelation therapy recommended by their doctor or naturopath.

Before embarking on a kelation therapy schedule it is best to find one that suites you. Some kelation therapy products are very expensive. A single kelation therapy schedule can cost well over $1000 and offer no proof that it worked. Several such kelation therapy products come from Europe and have not been adequately tested. Some of the less expensive keylation therapy products are cleanses that can be bought over the internet. Buying unproven products over the internet might not be the best idea. If you choose to go this route, reading reviews actual customers posted on sites such as Amazon or Ebay may be beneficial.

Many people choose to follow what their naturopath has told them. This can be viewed as a biased opinion as often the naturopath is selling the kelation therapy product that makes them the most money. Whether or not such a keylation therapy product works is never really known.

One of the very few FDA approved kelation therapy products is DMSA. DMSA was approved by the FDA (Federal Drug Administration) in 1991 as being safe for children following a keylation therapy program. DMSA has a large ‘theraputic window.’ This means there is a wide margin between the amount necessary to produce the intended result and the level that could potentially hurt patient. This makes DMSA a very safe form of keylation therapy. There is no know deadly dosage of DMSA while using it as part of a smart keylation therapy protocol.

The oral chelation protocol using DMSA Synergy is a simple 3 day “on” DMSA and 11 days “off” DMSA protocol.

Perhaps the best way to find a good keylation therapy product is to simply talk to someone who has used one personally. Keylation therapy should not be taken lightly as it is one of the key components to ensure optimal health.
